March 8 is International Women’s Day, and we’re taking the opportunity to honour the vision and commitment of three extraordinary women whose work is accelerating change across community services, aged care and wellbeing.

Meet our ambassadors of change

A dedicated Balwyn Evergreen board member and sales and marketing professional, Joanne Zhou is instrumental in fostering inclusive outreach within the Chinese community.

Tina Hogarth-Clarke is Balwyn Evergreen’s CEO who champions gender equality and ensures aged care services remain responsive and empathetic.

Full of positive energy, Jo Golds is a seasoned exercise instructor with more than 40 years of teaching experience who inspires women to embrace movement and social engagement through her uplifting exercise to music classes.

Despite their varied roles, each is united by a common goal of empowering older people and building a resilient and connected community.

Empowering community through leadership

At the heart of Balwyn Evergreen is a belief in the power of collaborative leadership to spark growth.

“I have witnessed the dedication of women in leadership and volunteers who enhance our community services with their skill and compassion,” Joanne says.

Tina explains that it’s the small steps that together lead to collective action that “inspires us to champion equality at every level.”

Similarly, Jo adds, “When we come together, the strength of genuine connection uplifts everyone and creates opportunities for growth.”

Leading change in aged care and community

Within aged care, respectful and responsive support is essential.

Jo, Tina and Joanne believe that creating a nurturing environment depends on communication that honours cultural diversity and fosters genuine community connection.

“By embracing inclusive communication and targeted outreach, we ensure every older person receives the respect and support they deserve,” Joanne says.

Tina’s focus is on elevating communications and celebrating each stride forward while also “inspiring our community to embrace progress”.

On a similar note, Jo says it’s the strong social connection and open dialogue that creates a supportive aged care environment “where experience and wisdom guide our actions”.

A future accelerated

Looking ahead, Tina, Jo and Joanne are committed to fostering an environment where mentorship, innovative communication and inclusive opportunities pave the way for continued progress. Their words offer a vision of a future where every contribution is recognised and celebrated.

“Investing in leadership pathways and mentorship programs for culturally diverse women opens new opportunities for community transformation,” Joanne says.

Echoing her sentiments, Tina adds: “I ensure every communication from our organisation supports and accelerates gender equality while inspiring the next generation of leaders.”

While Jo adds, “The energy we share today builds the momentum for a future where every woman’s contribution is recognised and celebrated.”

Balwyn Evergreen is home to a suite of extraordinary women whose diverse roles enrich every facet of our community. Their wisdom and dedication serve as the vital currency that strengthens their families and our broader society.

Tina sums this up beautifully: “Every woman’s contribution is essential. Their commitment and resilience empower our community to move forward with purpose and unity.”
