Get around Balwyn Evergreen's revamped Strength and Balance Circuit class
Updated: Sep 30
If you’re looking for a welcoming, progressive Exercise Physiology group class, then look no further than our revamped Strength + Balance Circuit on Tuesday and Friday mornings.
The class is open to men and women 65+ who are keen to improve their strength, balance and fitness, want a more dynamic and challenging class and wish to continue enjoying everyday activities.
Cathy Strempel (pictured) loves the workout and hardly ever misses a class.
According to Cathy, “Circuit training is THE BEST! I used to resent and dread having to go to exercise classes.
“Now, I am out of bed full of enthusiasm to attend the circuit training, knowing I'll be physically challenged while having a lot of fun. And there's a cuppa and chat after!”
Balwyn Evergreen Exercise Coordinator and Accredited Exercise Physiologist, Baylee Eastham, said the new exercise options offered participants several ways to work towards their individual goals.
“Healthy ageing is closely connected to maintaining the strength, balance and confidence needed to keep doing the everyday things that give life meaning,” Baylee says.
“These programs provide a supportive and evidence-based approach, whether someone feels ready for a progressive circuit class, would benefit from exercising in warm water or wants to reduce their risk of falling. Every participant is guided at a level that is appropriate for them, making progress achievable and purposeful.”
Each session will include a variety of exercise stations targeting the key components of healthy ageing:
Strength training to improve muscle mass, bone health and function
Balance training to reduce falls risk and build confidence
Mobility and flexibility to improve movement quality and joint function
Cardiovascular fitness using equipment such as rowing machines and functional aerobic exercises
Core strength and stability through Pilates-inspired exercises including dead bugs, bird dogs and glute bridges
Functional movement training focusing on activities such as squats, sit-to-stands, carrying, stepping and reaching
Coordination, reaction time and cognitive challenges through games and movement-based activities that keep the body and brain active
The class will differ each week and incorporate a variety of equipment. It's designed to be engaging and enjoyable while still delivering evidence-based exercise to improve strength, balance, mobility and overall fitness.
Strength + Balance Circuit is on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9am-10am. For more information and to find out if this class is right for you, please contact the office.
