Empowering Women's Health and wellbeing at Balwyn Evergreen

As we celebrate Women's Health Week from the September 2-6, we, at Balwyn Evergreen, are shining a spotlight on the strength, resilience and overall wellbeing of all the incredible women in our community.


This week is dedicated to you and we have a variety of activities designed to help you stay healthy, connected and thriving—not just during this special week, but throughout the year!


One of the highlights of our offerings is the Divas Group, which meets every second Thursday. This vibrant community of women gathers to share stories, laugh together and engage in fun, creative activities. The Divas Group embodies what it means to be connected and we welcome you to join this dynamic gathering as often as you can.


For those looking to boost their fitness and vitality, try out our Gentle Exercise Classes. These sessions offer a safe and supportive space where you can work on your physical health in a way that feels comfortable and encouraging. And we encourage you to make it a regular part of your routine because the more you engage in these classes, the more you’ll feel the benefits to your overall wellbeing.


But that’s not all—Balwyn Evergreen Centre also offers Line Dancing Classes. Led by experienced instructor Joanne Campbell, this class is designed to promote fitness, community and joy through dance. Line dancing is about connecting with others, enjoying great music and improving overall wellbeing, coordination, balance, cognitive function and fitness.


One of our new students, Audrey, 88, says "I fondly recall my brief encounter with line dancing over 25 years ago which was a moment that left me captivated and intrigued. I look forward to stretching my legs, enjoying some brain-boosting fun, and immersing myself in the diverse melodies that I adore. I love all sorts of music and the opportunity to meet new friendly faces along the way."

 

The benefits of regular participation in activities like line dancing provide a platform for social interaction, reducing feelings of loneliness and isolation, especially in older adults. The rhythmic movements and uplifting music also contribute to stress reduction and overall mental wellbeing.
